Plastic Pollution Action

We have adopted a target of reducing plastic pollution of our waterways by 70% by 2020. Already we have convinced NSW, Qld, ACT and WA to implement a container refund scheme; and are pressing to expand the plastic bag bans across the nation.
Smart well designed recycling systems

About

The destruction of our oceanic ecosystems by plastic pollution is a terrifying problem – but we can fix it. We have the solutions, but we must move fast. As micro-plastics move up the food chain, and onto our dinner plates, a ‘major health crisis’ is upon us. Smart well designed recycling systems could avert this, if and when industry and government work with us. Our solutions have been endorsed by several dozen recommendations in the bipartisan 2016 Senate Inquiry report.

Change is happening!
We are the home of the Boomerang Alliance which is campaigning on several fronts including plastic pollution and dangerous tyre dumps. We have adopted a target of reducing plastic pollution of our waterways by 70% by 2020. Already we have convinced NSW, Qld, ACT and WA to implement a container refund scheme; and are pressing to expand the plastic bag bans across the nation. TEC has also built the travelling Ocean Action Pod – an interactive exhibit which delivers critical information about plastic pollution of the oceans in an accessible, innovative and lively way. It’s been a big hit with schools and coastal communities – your school or council can book it too. Waste Not, TEC’s Award Winning film about the beauty of recycling and the future of our planet has been translated into 4 languages and screened in over 30 countries. It is used all over Australia as a valuable education tool by corporations, and in schools, universities and TAFE’s.
