AGL Energy

AGL has 17,000 square kilometres of exploration area. The Broke area is only 72 square kilometres. Sydney Gas say that at least 70% of that is unavailable to them because of houses, orchards, vineyards, waterways, etc., so we are only asking that 21 or so square kilometres be protected from their gas field. Please put a sign on your fence.
Don't drain our water

About

AGL ENERGY took over Sydney Gas on 1st April.

x AGL has done nothing so far to indicate they will treat us any differently to the way we have been treated by Sydney Gas.
x AGL has been well aware of the lack of community consultation by Sydney Gas.
x AGL has been well aware of the lack of environmental conscience of Sydney Gas.
x AGL is well aware of the risk to our underground water and of the risk of explosion near the school and village.
x AGL could still build a gas works on the land it bought next to the village.
x We have appointments with AGL and also with the Minister for Mineral Resources to seek that the Broke and Bulga areas be protected from the methane gas exploration area.
x We must be in with a chance – AGL has 17,000 square kilometres of exploration area. The Broke area is only 72 square kilometres. Sydney Gas say that at least 70% of that is unavailable to them because of houses, orchards, vineyards, waterways, etc., so we are only asking that 21 or so square kilometres be protected from their gas field. Is that so hard?
x A fresh signage campaign is underway with large banners on the outskirts of the village asking AGL to protect our water and to protect our kids.
x Smaller signs are available for your front gate. The more signs up the greater chance of ridding us of this invasion.
x We have a more aggressive signage campaign planned for Sydney. More on that next week.
x We have other plans for the immediate future.
x Help save our village from gas wells, and a gas plant. Help save our water and help keep us safe.
x Please put a sign on your fence. Just email [email protected] or leave a note in PO Box 120 at Broke and we’ll get one to you.

Main Issue of the Campaign:

Campaign Outcome:

Outcome Evidence: As states on Bulga Underground rehabilitation plan 'If market conditions improve Bulga Coal can recommence mining in accordance with DA 376-8-2003, which allows underground operations until 23 February 2031.' However, in 2021 the New South Wales government released a new plan, with an article from Oil & Gas Journal stating 'Large areas of northwest New South Wales have been placed off-limits for gas exploration under a new State government plan. The government’s “Future of Gas Statement” released July 21 by NSW Minister for Resources, John Barilaro, carves out large areas from Moree in the north to Coonamble and Gilgandra in the central west and Mudgee in the south as no-go zones for gas development. In total, the land available for gas exploration will be reduced by 77% on present levels. Barilaro said the only active petroleum licences to remain will be in the Narrabri and Liverpool Plains region—in other words, permits that contain and support Santos Ltd.’s proposed Narrabri coal seam gas project.'
