Wilderness Society WA

Western Australia branch of The Wilderness Society. We work with our community to protect WA's wilderness.

About

We’re a collective of curious, nature-loving and ready-to-go people here in Perth, and we’re inviting you to join us to help celebrate and support life here in WA. The vast expanse of the Helena Aurora Range, part of the Great Western Woodlands. We are calling for the protection of the Great Western Woodlands, the largest unfragmented temperate woodlands left in the world. Twice the size of Tasmania, the Great Western Woodlands in Western Australia supports a staggering 20% of our country’s plant species. And in July 2020 we launched a campaign to prevent the release of exploration licences for oil and gas on the doorstep of World Heritage Sites Ningaloo and Gutharraguda (Shark Bay). The campaign proved to be successful, safeguarding these national treasures for future generations.

Volunteering opportunities
Volunteering with The Wilderness Society is an incredibly rewarding experience. We have a number of roles within our campaign centre here in Perth—whether it’s communications, graphic design or community engagement. If you’ve got a skill you’d like to share as a volunteer—or even if you’re not sure where to start but you’re keen to get involved—then get in touch; we’d love to hear from you! Please email us at [email protected] to express your volunteer interest and we’ll find the right role for you.

Local Community Groups
The Wilderness Society works with Local Community Groups around the Perth metropolitan area. These Groups are a powerful way of connecting community members so they can take action on environmental issues in a meaningful way. Together we are empowering our communities, creating local leaders and building effective teams to create the solutions we need for nature. Please email us at [email protected] to express your interest, or sign up here.

Get wild!
Throughout the year we hold a number of events where you’ll get to experience, in person, our beautiful wild places. Follow us on Facebook to be kept up-to-date on these events! Search for upcoming events near you here.
