Formed in March 2011, NISA provides news of upcoming meetings, events and actions organised by local – community groups such as the Otford Protection Society, Wollongong Climate Action Network (WCAN), Stop Coal Seam Gas Mining in the Illawarra (SCSGI), Illawarra Residents for Responsible Mining (IRRM), Rivers SOS and others. News also of things happening in Sydney, elsewhere in the state and beyond. NISA is not aligned or associated with any political party. NISA will also organise events and actions. For instance, while we support the general call for a moratorium on coal seam gas mining until the outcome of an independent inquiry assesses its hazards and risks, we believe sufficient is known now to call for the Illawarra and Wonodilly Sydney Catchment Authority Special Areas and the nearby reserves and green corridor to be declared a coal seam gas exploration and mining exclusion zone.
