Smart Locale is a multi-stakeholder collaborative project for a brighter, smarter, better local economy in the Sydney suburbs of Ultimo and Pyrmont – a great place to live, work, study, visit, do business and invest in. Sustainably. Initiated in 2014 by the Total Environment Centre, Smart Locale consists of a number of stakeholder participants across business, government, research and academia, public institutions, engaged individuals and community groups. Ultimately this model will roll out to other suburbs and precincts. The Smart Locale is located in the Ultimo-Pyrmont mixed business and residential precinct, on the western side of Sydney’s CBD, at the heart of Australia’s largest and fastest-growing hub for creative digital and IT businesses.
This community forms a living laboratory for urban transformation with events, workshops and collaborative initiatives anchored in a multi-functional online platform. Smart Locale is shaping a compelling 21st century future, enabled by smart solutions for energy, water, waste, transport, shared services, the built environment and public space.
