Net Zero by 2035 for Climate Justice! Will you add your voice for a safer, fairer future powered by 100% renewables? Public pressure for climate action is working! The Morrison Government has announced a net zero by 2050 target – but that’s not good enough: we need critical action this decade. We need political leaders who have a clear plan to support communities through a rapid change to renewable energy. But the Morrison Government keeps throwing billions in government funding to big fossil fuel corporations who are profiting from making the climate crisis worse. Right now is a crucial time to invest in our communities, powering renewable energy and funding the services people need to thrive. Together we can build mass public support for justice-centred climate solutions and push the Federal government to commit to funding the 100% renewable future our communities need. Will you sign the open letter to send them a strong message?
Dear Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Minister Angus Taylor,
Australians are already feeling the dangerous impacts of climate change from extreme bushfires, to devastating droughts and dangerous floods to unliveable heatwaves. Australia is one of the sunniest and windiest continents in the world, we have the potential to be a renewable energy super power, exporting liquid sunshine to the world. We are calling on the government to commit to action this decade in line with the best science that shows we need to reach 75% emissions reduction by 2030 and no new fossil fuels. We are calling the Federal Government to commit to:
• Net zero emission by 2035, with a 75% reduction in emissions by 2030.
• 100% renewable energy by 2030, with all of our public schools, hospitals, government offices, public and social housing, halls and libraries powered by renewable energy by 2025.
• Supporting fossil fuel communities into climate positive jobs with fair pay, training opportunities and long-term security.
• End all public subsidies to coal, oil and gas and phase out all coal, oil and gas by 2035.
• Power Indigenous communities with renewable energy and support First Nations to lead and reap the rewards of renewable energy.
Yours sincerely,
