Emissions Free Driving/ 1 Million Women have partnered with Nissan Australia and the 100% electric Nissan LEAF because we believe that Electric Vehicles (EVs) are an important part of the solution to the climate crisis. This is the case especially in Australia where our cities sprawl out, and many of us live in suburbs that are not well connected to our workplaces by public transport. Transport contributes 17% to Australia’s overall emissions, and in many countries it’s the fastest growing source of emissions. In places where we’re transitioning to renewable energy, it just makes sense to switch to an electric car. That might not look like Australia right now, but we’re fighting for a future where our electricity no longer comes from fossil fuels. And as the price of renewables continues to fall, they’re making their way into our market. Plus, Australia has the most rooftop solar out of anywhere else in the world. That means many of us could charge our cars with the sun for free!
Which brings us to the next reason we’re really here for EVs, and the Nissan LEAF in particular. Because the LEAF is so affordable. Yes, it is a little more expensive than its combustion engine equivalent, but over years of use – with less maintenance than a combustion engine car, and no need to buy fuel, often EVs, and especially the LEAF, can work out cheaper for us. For those of us who really do have to drive to get around – which let’s face it, in Australia is a reality for many of us – we really think that EVs are without a doubt the best option for both us and the planet.
