UQ Climate for Change is a group formed by students and staff at UQ to raise awareness and generate action on issues of environmental sustainability, and most urgently, on climate change. We believe that our Universities, as centres of learning, research and critical thought, should demonstrate leadership in environmental management and in research and education for sustainability.
Living up to this responsibility is vital for the sake of ours and future generations, and is the only ethical response to the current sustainability emergency of climate change, environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity and depletion of natural resources. We are involved in advocacy and awareness projects at university, state and national levels, and encourage you to get involved! Our main focus so far has been on our submission on “Sustainability at UQ”, setting out ideas for a systemic and co-ordinated ‘Sustainability Plan’ that would integrate sustainability into UQ’s research, operations, teaching and outreach activities.
We are also involved in advocacy around the Queensland Govt’s Climate policies, and we have joined the AYCC – Australian Youth Climate Coalition, to support its great projects in youth outreach, Australian policy and International negotiations.
