About

Transition Kurilpa captures West End, Highgate Hill, Hill End and South Brisbane. Anyone who lives and/or works in the Kurilpa area is welcome to come and join us. We aim to foster a sustainable Kurilpa peninsular, one that supports local business with a sustainable number of residents living in sustainable buildings (not 25 000 residents where there are now 6000).

Come join us on Facebook. Come and get involved! Next Transition Kurilpa Meeting: Transition Kurilpa are meeting every second Wednesday of each Month. Our meetings are social and informal, with working groups meeting outside the monthly group meeting (working groups are where we the action is!). We currently use the meeting to review chapters of the Transition Handbook to share knowledge and experience, get new members and each other on the same page and to support the projects we are running (two chapters per meeting). See the Events page for our next meeting and other events we may be organising or just advertising.

We meet at 6.30 p.m. for a 7 p.m start, usually at the back of Spiral on Boundary St, West End. Please let us know if you are coming ([email protected]/ 0413 114 860) as we occasionally change venue. We generally share food at meetings, preferably locally sourced, vegetarian and organic. Spiral has a Cob Pizza oven, so sometimes we make pizza, contributing ingredients if we can. Most of us also pick up our Food Connect box on the night and share form that. If you can, please read the primer. This document gives a really good background to Transition Towns and what we are trying to achieve.

We are currently discussing and starting the process of developing the Energy Descent Action Plan and have recently received $37 060 from the Brisbane City Council to fund our Energetic Kurilpa Project through its Community Grants Program. We also try to meet once a month and help out at the Paradise Street Community Garden in West End (first Sunday of every month).
