A not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the protection of Australia’s waves and beaches through Conservation, Activism, Research and Education! Surfrider Foundation is a grass-roots non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection and enhancement of Australia’s oceans, waves and beaches. The organisation is unique within the environmental community, engaging with surfers, ocean-enthusiasts and beach-loving families. Whatever our connection to the coast, we all share a common bond – a deep passion for Australia’s coastline and ensuring they are kept clean and healthy. Through our network of local branches and beach representatives spread across Australia, Surfrider Foundation is fighting hard to preserve, protect and restore coastal environments, so that future generations can experience the same enjoyment from the beach that we do today.
Surfrider Foundation has four key areas of activity to achieve its mission of protecting our oceans, waves and beaches:
– CONSERVATION: hands-on activities with volunteers including marine debris beach clean-ups and coastal restoration works such as tree planting and weeding of invasive species.
– ACTIVISM : two major national campaigns, Endangered Waves and Rise Above Plastics, and a number of local community driven campaigns.
– RESEARCH: underpinning our campaigns, conservation and education initiatives with the best available science – e.g. the national state of our beaches survey.
– EDUCATION: to increase environmental stewardship and sustainable behaviour of beach users and decision makers through leadership training, workshops and stalls at festivals and surf contests.
