INTRODUCTION
This is the web site of the Stop Population Growth Now Party, a body of Australians seeking to reduce Australia’s population growth to zero as a matter of urgency. Government policy is adding over a million to Australia’s population every three years. This is damaging the quality of life of all Australians and greatly reducing the prospects for our children.
This highest ever growth rate is a direct result of government policy. Recent polls show that a majority of Australians do not support this government caused, rapid population growth. Most Australians believe that our population growth should be stopped while we work out how Australia can cope with changing climate, diminishing supplies of water and most non-renewable resources, city congestion, loss of arable land to city expansion and loss of Australia’s unique flora and fauna. Unfortunately, there is no point in these Australians voting for any of the established parties. Labor and the Coalition favour population growth. PHILOSOPHY OF STOP POPULATION GROWTH NOW. “We need to do whatever it takes to secure a future for our children”. Stop Population Growth Now recognises that:
• Australians are not living in an environmentally sustainable manner.
• Every environmental indicator is going backwards.
• Unless we change direction our children will inherit a depleted, damaged and less supportive world.
• Population growth makes every environmental problem harder to solve.
• Population growth is also making many problems worse: congestion, water shortages, soaring house prices, extinction of precious animal and bird species, good arable land being used for housing, reduction of fish stocks, pressure on health services etc etc. The major parties give voters no opportunity to vote on this most important of all issues.
Accordingly the objectives of Stop Population Growth Now are to:
• Reduce Australia’s rate of population growth to zero as rapidly as possible.
• If the resulting stable population is still environmentally unsustainable then to work to reduce the size of the population until we achieve environmental sustainability.
• To give Australian voters the opportunity to vote on this most important of all issues.
How Stop Population Growth Now will seek to implement its zero population growth policy:

However, the numbers shown as “Short term” can be achieved quickly, as they mainly depend on cuts in immigration.
Argument and Counter-argument
We live on a finite planet with finite resources. Australians live in a finite country with finite resources. We cannot go on growing forever so a question for those like Prime Minister Morrison and Leader of the Opposition, Albanese is, “When should we stop growing?” Why not now when we have modest amounts of resources still remaining for our descendants? The central argument often advanced by population boosters is that if we do not grow our population, we will not “prosper”. The boosters never acknowledge the impossibility of growing our population forever, and never acknowledge therefore that sooner or later, we are going to have to live without population growth. Stop Population Growth Now believes it is going to be much easier to adapt now, while we have approximately 25 million, than if we were to have 35 million or more as has been advocated by some.
