Welcome to the Stockton Community Action Group. This group was set up to help with the collaboration and distribution of information about the Orica Chemical Spill that affected Stockton and its surrounding areas. Stockton is no longer a pristine holiday destination, it has become famous as a result of Orica’s pollution deposits. Stockton Community Action Group is dedicated to acting on the behalf of the community and to reduce or eliminate the toxic pollution impacting on the health and wellbeing of our elderly, frail, children and members of the community.
Our Aim: A Clean and Safe Environment.
Who we are
Stockton Community Group (SCG) is a dedicated group of volunteers passionate about supporting community members, and addressing local needs. The SCG aims to support and maintain the health and vibrancy of the social and natural environment of Stockton and surrounding areas.
Our Story: SCG (formerly Stockton Community Action Group) initially formed with a goal to challenge breaches made by corporate businesses concerning the environment, with a view to achieve a more sustainable local environment. Initially, key issues were to challenge the proposal of an airport on Kooragang Island, petition against the negative effects and danger of chemicals to the Stockton environment and residents health. More recently, the SCG have become involved in Save Stockton Beach, addressing the inaapropriate use of Crown Land, challenge ammonium nitrate storage locally, and identifying other relveant issues in Stockton to ensure a safe and healthy community and environment. SCG has an elected Executive Committee who meet regularly to discuss and act upon local matters of concern, with visitors most welcome to also attend. This meeting provides a forum to ensure the Stockton community are aware of and involved in matters influencing their lifestyle, and be involved in campaigns regarding Stockton and surrounding areas.
What’s in a name?
Why Stockton Community Group? Community means “the sharing or having certain attitudes and interests in common”; which we believe describes our group very well. We have a shared commitment of supporting our community and the people who live here. What’s ‘By the Community for the Community’? It represents our approach to delivering successful outcomes:
First, we are a group of volunteer community members
Secondly, the central purpose of the group is to serve the Stockton community and understand your needs and solutions. We unpack your challenges.
