Growing community, well-being, social justice and resilience (in the face of limits imposed by Climate Change & resource depletion) for people in the Shire of Mundaring. Come and join us. The idea that relentless economic expansion is always a good thing – or even possible on a finite planet – no longer makes sense. Instead we need to grow community, well-being, social justice and resilience (the ability to respond and adapt to the unexpected). It would surely be sensible to be wary of any approach to creating growth which imperils those things, or which works only for a very few at the expense of the many by being focused solely on monetary growth within a flawed financial system.
MiT builds on the work already being done by the many environmentally conscious and active groups in the area. It supports local business by encouraging local purchasing and we aim to work closely with the Shire. It increases social capital involving everyone who would like to be involved by the formation of sub groups – using the energy, knowledge and enthusiasm already in the community. Transition is a rapidly growing international movement.
