Lock Gippsland Gates to CSG is an alliance of Gippsland residents concerned by the impacts of inappropriate mining and gas extraction. Lock Gippsland Gates to CSG is committed to the protection of Gippslands water resources, good farming land, environmentally sensitive areas, our citizens’ health and our cultural heritage.
We believe Australia’s governments should introduce a moratorium on coal seam gas exploration and mining until there is certainty that these industries will not have a detrimental impact on these values. We are not opposed to mining per se. Responsible and sustainable mining can occur in areas where these values are not at risk. Lock The Gate is also a strategy of non-cooperation. The impacts of mining and gasextraction are potentially irreversible. More and more landholders are refusing to negotiate or cooperate with industries that have lost their social license to operate.
