About

Half the world’s forests are destroyed and a further 30% are degraded. This is not good for anyone. Half the world’s flora and fauna come from rainforests, they are our biodiversity hotspots. Yet, less than 6% of our rainforest remains from once 14% global cover. Our rainforests are more than half-cut. We go HalfCut every August to raise awareness and fundraise to buy back rainforests. Our focus for now is on the Daintree rainforest, the world’s oldest rainforest (140-180 million years old, tens of millions of years older than the Amazon), that is at risk of further development. HalfCut is a peer to peer, fun, social, visually disruptive and environmental movement that engages all people from all paths of life to raise urgent funds to support forests, wildlife, people, climate our planet.

HalfCut vision
HalfCut aims to protect crucial forests for habitat for threatened and endangered species, support Traditional Owners with handover to manage and heal country & culture, expand Lots back into National Park, and engage in mass rainforest tree planting projects, ultimately being part of the solution to the growing climate emergency, ensuring a safe future for all species on Earth.

We focus on:
We learnt that over 50% of the world’s forests are GONE and less than 3% of Rainforests are left on earth. We wanted to do something about it. We focus on two aspects
• Expanding Daintree Rainforest: The Daintree Lowland Rainforest is one of the oldest rainforests on Earth having survived undisturbed for over 120 million years. It holds exceptionally high biodiversity and conservation value and is the largest continuous area of tropical rainforest remaining in Australia. We have partnered with Rainforest 4 where we are preserving real acres in the Daintree far north Queensland. Working with local Traditional Owners – The Eastern Kuku Yalanji people.
• Tree restoration: Our goal in the next three years is to establish 1 million trees in Australia and build upon this. To help rewild much-needed habitat for wildlife, people, climate our Planet. To absorb the last 30 years of carbon emission. Over 50% of the world’s forests are destroyed. They are HalfCut. Thus far with our partners Rainforest Rangers and community groups we have planted over 96 000 trees.
