About

Friends of the Earth Sydney is a community-based volunteer organisation working for social and environmental justice. http://www.foe.org.au/sydney.

Friends of the Earth (FoE) Sydney is a volunteer-based collective that campaigns for social & environmental justice, with a commitment to grassroots, democratic organising & support for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander struggles. We welcome new members and seek to expand the diversity & skills of the group and environment movement more broadly! We welcome new members, ideas, initiatives and projects. We meet at 107 projects, 107 Redfern St Redfern at 6:15pm every second Monday. See our calendar of meetings & events here!

Our campaign: Bill Busters!
We are currently campaigning for a mandatory minimum energy efficiency standard for all renters, whether in social housing or the private market. It is unacceptable that people who don’t own property are forced to live in sub-standard, energy inefficient homes. We want to see a strong standard which supports low-income tenants. This could be paid directly by landlords to improve their homes, or subsidised through state support and the record retail profits of large energy companies. We believe a strong energy efficiency standard for residential housing would cut bills and emissions, improve health outcomes and generate meaningful employment. Endorse our campaign!

Friends of the Earth Sydney is part of Friends of the Earth Australia (FoEA), which is a federation of independent local groups just like Friends of the Earth Sydney working for a socially equitable and environmentally sustainable future. Founded in 1974, FoEA has evolved into a diverse and vibrant network of groups that are working at the local, regional, national and international level over the last 34 years. Friends of the Earth International is the world’s largest federation of national environmental organisations. The network is now active in 71 countries, with more than 5,000 local branches.
