A coalition of concerned community members is assisting the Western Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation and Kuku Djungan People to stop CSG at Mt Mulligan.
The Western Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation and Kuku Djungan People, have invited public concerned about CSG to join with them in informing ourselves about all the implications of CSG (Coal Seam Gas – Methane) to our amazing home FNQ & specifically the area around their sacred mountain Nguddaboolgan. They wish to work with the community to protect our land, water, food, health & the spiritual significance of the whole area. We wish to encourage everyone to share knowledge around CSG & stand united to ensure our children & grandchildren & great grandchildren inherit a environment / home that is more healthy, less polluted, connected & respected than it is now. A CSG exploration permit has been granted over Nguddaboolgan (Mt Mulligan) ~60km west north west of Mareeba in the headwaters of the iconic Mitchell River. Nguddaboolgan is a very sacred place to the Kuku Djungan and Western Yalanji people and surrounding traditional custodians. This country contains numerous sacred and cultural sites that are listed on the National Heritage database and has endangered fauna and also plants that are found nowhere else.
Mt Mulligan also holds significant historical values. For further information on fracking visit the Lock the Gate Alliance website at www.lockthegate.org.au For more information please email [email protected]
CSG Free NQ is a group of citizen journalists and qualified volunteers who are dedicated to providing reliable information, resources, and encouragement to the communities of North Queensland in relation to proposed unconventional gas extraction activities anywhere in the region. We strive to be a comprehensive, up to date, and accessible hub for supporting the co-ordination of research, direct action, and campaign strategies while also helping to facilitate networking between active groups in the region. CSG Free NQ has registered affiliation with Lock the Gate Alliance, the national body responsible for successfully campaigning to stop the fracking in NSW and Victoria, and supporting action groups everywhere to achieve successful outcomes in protecting our land, air, water and life itself from the dangers posed by CSG exploration and extraction activities. CSG Free NQ formally incorporated in September, 2014, and has dedicated personnel, committed to their roles in service of our aims.
