Make your actions count!
CounterAct was conceived during work for the Broome community defending the Kimberley back in 2011. We launched in 2012 to support communities in taking effective, creative, strategic action on issues of environmental and social justice. CounterAct was an incorporated not-for-profit organisation that supported communities across Australia to protect the natural environment and work for social justice and human rights. We provided training, educational resources and capacity building to support communities and activists. At the end of 2023, we regrettably wound up CounterAct. Given the work we have done is more critical now than when we started, it’s been hard to walk away. Unfortunately health issues among our core team made the situation untenable after years of precarious and under-funded work. We very much hope other groups will step into this space. We encourage you to use and adapt our resources or take anything useful you can from this website.
CounterAct’s Legacy: A Resource Repository
The CounterAct team have deliberately set this website up on a sturdy framework and server so it can be useful for many years to come. It provides a record of our work and a repository for resources. We have done a complete overhaul of the website. Important legal fact sheets and a range of other resources have been updated. We’ll return in the second quarter of 2024 to continue building out this resource library to the best level we can! We hope you go on to make beautiful trouble and age disgracefully as the wonderful knitting Nanas and elders leading the way. If you have queries around resources, or would like to provide any additional links, this email address will be checked every few weeks. However, we will not be doing any more volunteer work. We are grateful for everyone who made this nearly 12 years of work possible. The CounterAct team have loved learning and working with you, and serving the community to build radical and beautiful resistance in as many places as possible. Thanks for everything you do – Nicola and the team. PS – you can find Nicola on usual social channels or linked in if you’d like to seek advice.
