About

The Climate Justice Union is ordinary people working together and pooling resources to accelerate the fair and just transition to net zero emissions, and prepare for and adapt to climate change impacts while taking care of people and place.

We are community members, mothers, fathers, children, doctors, farmers, fire-fighters, hairdressers, labourers, librarians, office workers, waitstaff and everyone else. Our primary aim is for Western Australia to rapidly transition to net-zero emissions, including exports, while taking care of people and place. To achieve this, we take a community organising based approach to working in communities across Western Australia and in key local industries to build community-led action on climate change and inequality. We work for climate justice, and that means our transition must be fair and must result in better outcomes for ordinary people, especially those who are least privileged.

This must not be yet another exercise in colonialism and exploitation. Climate justice means a positive future for First Nations people, for rural communities, for fossil fuel workers, for low-income communities, for people affected by extreme weather, and for all other people impacted by climate change. Right now we are at a crossroads. Our society, economy and environment are going through rapid changes. Some of that change is scary, and rightly so. But there are also opportunities for ordinary people to improve outcomes for ourselves and each other, for the environment and for the communities in which we all live and work. In both scenarios, our greatest strength is each other. When human communities decide to stand in solidarity and act together, that is when we are at our very best. And that’s why we are Union.

Climate Justice Union members understand the scale of the challenge posed by the climate crisis, and the unfair economic systems which cause it. If that sounds like you, join now. Together, we can and will change those systems.
