About

Climate Action Port Stephens, founded in 2019, is a not-for-profit community group of Port Stephens residents who are concerned about the global climate and ecological crisis and want to see real climate action in our community. We are people from all walks of life wanting real climate action in our community. We work to to motivate, educate and empower the community and governments to take action to address the climate crisis. Our aims include: to build community and government support for the necessary actions to address climate change, to protect our community to be a trusted local voice on climate change issues, and to sustain and grow Climate Action Port Stephens as an inclusive community group.

Since CAPS began we have made significant inroads into local Climate Action. Port Stephens Council may not have declared a climate emergency as we urged them to with a petition including 661 signatures, however they have developed a meaningful climate change policy and joined the Cities Power Partnership in response to our campaigning. CAPS has been involved in numerous public actions with groups including Plastic Free Port Stephens, Australian Parents for Climate Action and School Strikes for Climate. Read our newsletters and local news articles for information on these and other campaigns. JOIN US in our action for the environment! CAPS is also a member of Climate Action Network Australia (CANA), and has signed up to work with Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE) to make Port Stephens a Zero Carbon Community. CAPS is a registered charity and listed on the ACNC.

Climate Action Port Stephens members live, meet and work on the lands of the Worimi people and respect that sovereignty of those lands was never ceded. We pay respect to Elders past, present and future, and acknowledge the pivotal role that Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people continue to play within the Australian community.
