Protect Tasmania's Marine Environment

About

Our Marine Campaign: Nowhere else on earth.
There is a secret marine wonderland under Tasmania’s seas. While all Australians know about the Great Barrier Reef, very few know that Tasmania is a unique, global hot spot for marine biodiversity. 90 percent of Tasmania’s marine life is found nowhere else on earth. Giant underwater kelp forests, the endangered spotted handfish, the Macquarie Island cormorant – these are just some of the species that only exist in Tasmania, the gateway to Antarctica.

And yet just 1 percent of Tasmania’s globally significant marine environment is protected. That means it is at risk of being destroyed by overfishing, climate change and poorly planned coastal development – before people even know it exists. Our mission is to stop this from happening. The endangered Weedy Seadragon. Click here for a full report on Tasmania’s marine values.
