Petition to maintain climate change leadership: The Australian Capital Territory has a good record on taking a leading position on dealing with climate change. To maintain our local leadership and keep up with the science we could do more. We should do this. We have had our existing targets for five years and we are on track and it hasn’t wrecked the economy or cost us a lot. So let’s continue to do our bit — to be part of a local solution to a global problem. Sign the petition to call for further action to bring us into line with what science suggests is necessary and to maintain the ACT’s leadership on climate change action.
Take Action: join our campaign for zero emissions in Canberra by 2040 and support for 100% renewable energy by 2020
The Australian Capital Territory has climate policy that leads the world, and it’s working. Since 2010 we have invested in renewable energy and Canberra’s emissions have dropped by 12%. It’s time to build on our success. With a global climate agreement in place, and 2015 the hottest year on record, climate action has never been more urgent. In Canberra we know how to cut emissions and improve our city at the same time. But we have more work to do. Canberra can reach zero emissions in the next twenty-five years (i.e. 2040) and our electricity can be 100% renewable by 2020. Please join us to tell our leaders we’re ready and we want their commitment. Here in the ACT we can lead in taking the politics out of climate change. We want to be the first jurisdiction to have support from all major parties for our climate change targets and actions to deliver them.Sign our petition to keep Canberra ahead of the pack and lead the world to a zero emissions future.

We celebrate that Canberra is well on the path to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. We need to do this for the planet, for future generations and for a climate friendly future for all. To maintain our local leadership and keep up with climate science we could do more. We have had our existing targets for five years and we are on track and it hasn’t wrecked the economy or cost us a lot. So let’s continue to do our bit – to be part of a local solution to a global problem. We want to be the first jurisdiction in Australia to have support from all major parties for our climate change targets and actions to deliver them.
We urge you to support:
bringing forward our zero net emissions target from 2050 to 2040,
100% renewable energy for electricity by 2020,
interim target reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2030,
complete ACT Government divestment in fossil fuels by 2018.
