Paid to Pollute. Fossil fuel subsidies are one of the biggest barriers to fighting climate change. So we’re leading a sustained national campaign to end fossil fuel subsidies in Australia. Research by Environment Victoria, with Market Forces, uncovered the full extent of fossil fuel subsidies in the federal budget, coming in at over $10 billion each year. In the context of the Abbott Government’s “budget emergency”, our work helped build popular support for cuts to these subsidies. We’ll build on this important work in the lead-up to the 2014-15 federal budget.
