About

In 2010, the Qld Government sold 99 year leases of Forestry Plantations to Hancock’s Timber Resources: 350 000 hectares in all. One plantation is situated right next to Wet Tropics World Heritage. Caribbean Pine mono-culture is being grown with intensive aerial spraying of chemicals for ‘weeds’, i.e. native forest regrowth. Many in the community express that they have not been consulted or informed. Licenses should be reassigned and the forests re-vegetated for crucial wildlife corridors and habitat for cassowaries and other wildlife.
