Stop the nuclear industry| stop any nuclear waste dump on the Northern Territory

About

Beyond Nuclear Initiative. This is a crucial time in the battle against the dirty, dangerous nuclear industry:
• The federal government is doing everything it can to expand uranium mining.
• The government is attempting to impose a nuclear waste dump on Northern Territorians, and an overseas consortium will attempt to convince Australians to host an international high-level nuclear waste dump.
• The push to introduce nuclear power plants into Australia will continue.
• The propaganda about a nuclear ‘solution’ to climate change will continue, even while the true solutions – energy efficiency measures and renewable energy sources – are ignored and underfunded.

To support and strengthen existing campaigns for a nuclear-free Australia, the Poola Foundation (Tom Kantor Fund), Friends of the Earth Australia and the Australian Conservation Foundation have joined forces to establish the Beyond Nuclear Initiative. It was set up in early 2006. The Beyond Nuclear Initiative is campaigning:
• against the expansion of the uranium mining industry in Australia
• against the imposition of a nuclear waste dump on the Northern Territory
• in support of a clean energy future and against proposals to use nuclear power as a climate-change abatement strategy.

It currently has staff in Alice Springs, Darwin and Melbourne.
