With nearly 1 million square kilometres of deep blue water, coral reefs, and spectacular marine life, the Coral Sea Marine Reserve is truly an incredible win for our ocean. But right now, the reserve exists only on paper, not yet on water. This campaign urged the Environment Minister Tony Burke to make final amendments to the management plan.
Last weekend’s king tides totally inundated the proposed coal export terminals in the Fitzroy delta. Aerial photographs clearly show both the proposed Fitzroy Terminal and Xstrata terminal sites covered by the ocean, leaving only the tops of the highest mangroves exposed... Capricorn Conservation Council (CCC) opposes Xstrata’s plans for the industrial development of Balaclava Island for a coal export facility in the Fitzroy River Delta on environmental grounds.
CCC totally supports the prohibition of vehicles from the Orange Bowl and the Willies Creek area. Driving into the Orange Bowl and surrounding dunes by four wheel driving hoons in the past has caused appalling destruction and vandalism of a beautiful natural area.
Much of the proposed Urban Precinct land, has significant constraints to development especially due to regular sustained flooding and potential for ocean storm surge
The Connors River, the only remaining ‘wild’ river in the Fitzroy Basin is to be damned(sic) for the sake of the sulphurous, low grade, steaming coal,mega-mines in the Galilee Basin. CCC wrote to Minister Burke urging him to consider the potential impact on the vulnerable Fitzroy River Turtle
