We believe Australia needs to take urgent steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition our economy to a low carbon future based on 100% renewable energy.
The year-long campaign to have the Sunshine Coast Council declare a climate emergency and take stronger and more urgent action, has achieved an important outcome. The Council unanimously passed a motion, put forward by Cr David law, at a general council meeting on 10 November 2021.
Ports North, is proposing to undertake a major dredging operation in Trinity Inlet, however there are serious environmental risks and major community concerns with the proposal. This campaign targets the QLD Government to stop the dredging.
With nearly 1 million square kilometres of deep blue water, coral reefs, and spectacular marine life, the Coral Sea Marine Reserve is truly an incredible win for our ocean. But right now, the reserve exists only on paper, not yet on water. This campaign urged the Environment Minister Tony Burke to make final amendments to the management plan.
2015 and a sneaky snap election has caught many people napping, but here at CAFNEC we are well into implementing an election campaign plan. This election we will have a strong focus on the reef with our vote for the reef campaign and we will be producing an election report card and other materials so we can all make an informed voting decision based on the candidates policies on local and state-wide environmental issues.
