There is mounting evidence that CSG mining poses substantial risks. Stop CSG Illawarra formed to express community concern about these risks

Over the last year our main campaign was to get the coal seam gas exploration licence covering the Sydney basin — PEL 463 — cancelled. It was successful.

Stop CSG Sydney, formerly known as Sydney Residents Against Coal Seam Gas (SRACSG), is a community group campaigning to stop Coal Seam Gas (CSG) mining in Sydney and to stop the expansion of CSG mining across NSW. We undertake a variety of activities including making submissions to all relevant authorities (federal, state and local) about our aims. We also organise community meetings, rallies, lobbying and other actions to achieve the objectives of Stop CSG Sydney.

The campaign for a ban on CSG mining and exploration in NSW catchments has so far stopped approved drilling in the Woronora and Upper Nepean catchments going ahead... It has not yet won a ban.

We’re sending a clear message to the banks that if they invest in reef and climate destruction, then were dumping them.
