ALEC advocates for stronger regulatory frameworks governing pollution, reporting and groundwater extraction for mineral, gas and petroleum industries working in Central Australia, and runs a number of community campaigns including Alice Climate Action, Don't Frack the Territory and Clean Energy NT.
This campaign targeted Chief Minister of Northern Territory Michael Gunner to protect dingos on pastoral leases.
This campaign was to stop the Singleton Station water licence. ALEC were taking the Minister for the Environment (NT) to court over the Singleton water licence and raising funds for the court case. "The approval of the largest groundwater licence in the history of the Northern Territory puts arid ecosystems at risk of being destroyed."
This was a communications campaign. "We don’t accept the story that people and nature must be in conflict. That extinction and destruction are inevitable. That we must poison the well we drink from. Instead, we are telling new stories – stories of connection, creativity and hope... Guided by the best research from communications, psychology, academia and campaigning, we are skilling people up to have meaningful conversations and use the power of narrative to change the story."
