The Australian Government announced that more than 80% of Tasmania’s Tarkine region would be protected. This stopped State Government plans to log the Tarkine Rainforest Corridor at the heart of the wilderness area.

The campaign to save Tasmania's Franklin and Gordon rivers, threatened by a huge hydro-electric development, galvanised the green movement in Australia.

Less than 5% of the Tarkine is properly protected in a national park. The rest is open to mining and logging... We can gain formal protection for the Tarkine – as World Heritage, as conservation reserves and as Aboriginal land.

We have been campaigning for the Van Deimen's Land Dairy company to abandon its plans to clear nearly 2000 hectares of native forest on its property at Woolnorth.
