Last weekend’s king tides totally inundated the proposed coal export terminals in the Fitzroy delta. Aerial photographs clearly show both the proposed Fitzroy Terminal and Xstrata terminal sites covered by the ocean, leaving only the tops of the highest mangroves exposed... Capricorn Conservation Council (CCC) opposes Xstrata’s plans for the industrial development of Balaclava Island for a coal export facility in the Fitzroy River Delta on environmental grounds.

CCC opposes the current proposed tourism and residential development and would like to see the high environmental values of the Island protected as a National Park.

This campaign focussed on protecting Bimblebox Nature Refuge (QLD) from mining. It also looked at broader protections "Thus our combined efforts to safeguard Bimblebox Nature Refuge need eventually to take this test case to the point where we achieve proper legislation that will protect all high biodiversity value areas in Queensland, not only National Parks."

Bob Brown Foundation has called for an end to logging of all Swift Parrot breeding habitat and for these forests to be placed in National Park reserves. "Bruny Island is the Swift Parrots’ last safe substantial nesting place.
