We live in a truly special country. But weak environment laws and government inaction have made Australia a world leader in extinction and deforestation.

We are urgently calling on our Government to introduce a comprehensive package of nature law reforms to protect our unique wildlife and their habitats.

Vets for Climate Action was one of 50 national, state and local climate and environment organisations that signed onto a joint letter to Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek to reject new coal mines and mine expansions, currently being assessed under our nature laws (the EPBC Act) which will devastate endangered koala habitat.

During floods, fires, the Covid-19 pandemic or other ‘natural disasters’, Services Australia suspends penalties so that people don’t need to worry about their payments being cut off.
The same should be true for severe or extreme heatwaves.
