Up to 850 coal seam gas wells are planned by Santos across the Pilliga – threatening to industrialise this habitat refuge. We're supporting the community, volunteer researchers and others to ensure the Pilliga is one forest that will not be left open for coal seam gas destruction.
Leard State Forest and surrounding farmlands, near Narrabri, are threatened by proposals for three new or expanded open-cut coal mines.
Hundreds of submissions to the Independent Planning Commission failed to prevent the expansion of Coal Seam Gas mining in Pilliga area by mining giant Santos.
This campaign is uniting a powerful movement — farmers, Traditional Owners, doctors, environmental groups, religious leaders and many others — to stop the construction of the huge Maules Creek Coal Mine in the endangered Leard State Forest.
Wando Conservation and Cultural Centre is the Maules Creek-based conservation group in the Narrabri Shire of NSW, fighting against the threats of coal and CSG to the Leard and Pilliga Forests and these endangered habitats.
