About

The Dr Mohammed Haneef case has joined the Tampa, Children Overboard, David Hicks and Iraq in the growing list of security-related scandals, and Australians are demanding to know why the lines were once again blurred between politics, justice and national security. When will our politicians get the message that we are tired of the politics of fear?

We want real leadership protecting civil liberties and security, not cynical political reactions based on opinion polls. We expect a trusted counter-terrorism system that responds to legitimate threats, not imagined or political ones. We expect you to protect us from terrorism while maintaining the integrity of our legal system and our valued rights and freedoms.

Dr Haneef may have returned to India, but our campaign against the politics of fear continues:

To All Australian Politicians,

We expect you to protect us from terrorism, but demand you do so in a way that maintains the integrity of our legal system, due process, and our valued rights and freedoms.

We demand a trusted counter-terrorism system that responds to legitimate threats, not imagined or political ones.”
