About

October 2012: It is 2015 and the Wellington Walk has been completed. It takes happy wanderers 70 kilometres from Salamanca Place to the Styx River Bridge. It offers an adventure which no other Australian capital city can match.

The first day’s walk is the hardest, but comes with the bonus of stunning scenery. From Salamanca, up past the nation’s oldest brewery at the Cascades, there is a choice of paths along either the leafy Hobart Rivulet track or the pavements up Davey Street and Cascades Road through an arresting array of cafes, antique shops and historic buildings. These include the infamous Female Factory and the Federation era gem which, since 1983, has been the Wilderness Society’s national headquarters.
