Both the Hobart and Blue Tier events were a great success – big thanks to everyone who came along. Walk Against Warming (WAW) is Australia’s community day of action on climate change. This year in Hobart about 200 community members gathered at the Cornelian Bay foreshore for a vegan BBQ and kite flying and called on the state and federal governments to be world leaders on climate change. Speakers included, Peter Boyer (The Climate Project), Christine Milne (Australian Greens Senator), Margaret Steadman (Sustainable Living Tasmania), Corey Peterson (Sustainability Officer, Mackillop College) and Sam Simenetis (Rail, Tram and Bus Union).

Campaign Details
Group Leading this Campaign: Environment Tasmania
Who this Campaign is Targeting: State and federal governments
Main Issue of the Campaign: Climate change
Campaign Ran From: 2008 to 2008
Campaign Outcome: Campaign goal not achieved
Outcome Evidence: As stated on Climate Action Tracker website in June 2024 'Despite a fresh start after a decade of inertia, the Australian government's promise to “take the country forward on climate action” has failed to deliver. The government’s overreliance on reported emissions reductions in the land sector obscures its continuous support for fossil fuels and lack of action beyond policies addressing emissions from large industrial facilities and the power sector.' As a result it does not appear to be the case that the Prime Minister took sufficient action to address climate change in line with the campaign goals. (Ascertained June 2024).
Year Outcome Assessed: 2024
