Climate Action in 2015

We made a great beginning to our planning process for 2015 over dinner last week at Jane’s. Thank you to all those who so energetically participated.

We reviewed our efforts in 2014 and identified a number of activities that people found satisfying and even inspiring. These included many community organising activities including stalls, collecting signatures for the monster petition, door-knocking, and house signs associated with our Vote Climate campaign.

DCAN’s list of supporters more than doubled and 2014 and we need to again grow this list in 2015..

We identified a number of areas that we were keen to pursue in 2015. The most enthusiasm was for:

Community organising to expand our reach into the community;
Developing neighbourhood climate clusters;
Pressuring Darebin Council to divest any fossil fuel investments;
Working with Council to promote renewables and green power;
Developing a group letter writing;
Working with Getup, EV and 350 to reach more people in Darebin;
Support for a mass mobilisation to close Hazelwood and stop Galilee Basin Coal;
Identifying new messaging material around shared values, and the importance of climate action – no matter what your political stripes we are all in this together.

There was a lot of enthusiasm to develop these ideas further, and so we are meeting again on Monday 2nd March. We are very keen to meet new members, so get in touch if you have an interesting in helping us plan for 2015.

Otherwise just look out for our emails and website updates, and we look forward to seeing you at one of our DCAN events in 2015.
