About

Building the safe climate campaign from councils up: Hype vs Hope: national tour
Are you a climate focused community group, a council climate team, a group of Councillors contemplating a climate energy declaration? Have you been locked down and searching for inspiration and better ways to respond to the climate emergency? Consider an online presentation by CACE. CACE is running a national Hype vs Hope tour featuring Dale Martin from Local Government Climate Emergency Toolkit and Adrian Whitehead, founder of CACE. Together we unpack:
– What is a climate emergency declaration?
– How bad is global warming?
– Actions your council can undertake in response to the climate emergency.
– How to get these actions into your council plans?
– What is emergency mobilisation and what does it mean for councils?
– We will also take a look at your councils response and make recommendations in an emergency frame.

We are experienced hosting community education events and formal presentations to council and want to do more! If you are interested please ring or email Adrian Whitehead on 0403 735 118 or [email protected] and book a date.

Why Councils?
With international agreements and national governments failing to stop – let alone reverse – global warming, councils can and are playing a key role in leading the climate emergency response.
Step 1. Acknowledge or declare we are in a Climate Emergency.
Step 2. Mobilise your community and move your council into emergency mode. By declaring a climate emergency you are supporting a call for immediate and urgent action to reverse global warming and avoid the coming climate catastrophe.

Your council can add its voice to over 1500 councils that have already declared a ‘Climate Emergency’.
Emergencies require emergency responses
A council’s key roles
– Upwards: Lobbying state and national governments to adopt and fund a full climate emergency response in order to reverse global warming.
– Sideways: Encouraging other councils to implement a climate emergency response via networks and leading by example.
– Inwards: Educating council staff about the climate emergency and how and what a council can do to respond from the CEO down.
– Downwards: Local emergency action through education, mobilisation, mitigation and resilience building throughout the community.

Take action
– Build a campaign: How you can help your council declare and implement a climate emergency response.
– For councils: Draft policies and programs for councils willing to tackle the climate emergency.
– Live climate safe: Make your life more climate friendly and become a lifestyle leader amongst your friends and community .

How did we get here?
Continued denials of the basic science, current impacts and future risk combined with incremental campaigning, suicidal targets and commitment to business as usual patterns and industries at almost any price has led us into a climate emergency.
