Revive our Rivers

We’ve been campaigning for the Murray-Darling Basin for over a decade in solidarity with the communities all over the Basin.

About

Revive our Rivers

Healthy rivers, floodplains and wetlands are essential to life. Yet greed and mismanagement has pushed our mightiest river to the brink of collapse.

From mass fish kills to entire communities running out of water, we risk a future where much of inland NSW becomes uninhabitable.

We’ve been campaigning for the Murray-Darling Basin for over a decade in solidarity with the communities all over the Basin. We’ve made videos, taken MPs and the media to the river, joined inland community leaders and conservation organisations on the steps of Parliament to lobby for strong action, petitioned and pestered politicians, called out the misinformation, and even taken the NSW Water and Environment Ministers to court.

We are doing everything we can to make sure the Murray-Darling Basin gets the water it needs.

Donate now to help us share the below video with as many people as possible.

The time to act is now

For decades, community groups, First Nations leaders, farmers, fishers and environmental groups called on decision makers at state and federal level to reverse the over extraction of water.

The deadly impact became clear during the 2019 drought, when entire communities ran out of water and 20 to 30 million fish died over a couple of days.

The communities of inland NSW refuse to allow the Mighty Darling/Baaka River Basin to die without a fight.

Last year we helped deliver the biggest win we’ve had in the Murray-Darling in years, when the Federal Government passed the Restoring Our Rivers Bill.

This year, our court settlement with the NSW government will see climate change and the ecological needs of rivers and wetlands properly considered when allocating water.

We know what it takes to win!

Did you know?
* Wetlands are the fastest shrinking ecosystem in the world
* The Murray Darling Basin covers 70% of NSW and is home to 2 million people
* Native fish populations have declined by 90% across the Murray Darling in the last 100 years
* Only 2% of basin wetlands have received annual environmental flows in the last decade.
* Water taken via floodplain harvesting has increased 240% since the 1990’s
