New Planning Scheme

The Sunshine Coast Council has prepared a new draft planning scheme for the Sunshine Coast which was open for public comment between the 19th of October and the 14th of December 2012.

SCEC welcomes the development of a single planning scheme for the region and is campaigning to ensure that the scheme will create a framework for long term conservation and protection of ecological significant areas, protection of wetlands and waterways and a mechanisms to rehabilitate degraded ecologically significant areas (including riparian zones) and reestablish connectivity between conservation areas.

SCEC has reviewed the draft planning scheme (focusing in particular on the biodiversity and waterways overlays and associated codes) and prepared a submission detailing our support and our concerns. SCEC had an opportunity to present its findings to a full council meeting and continues to liaise with council officers and councilors about this very important document.

SCEC gratefully acknowledges the support of industry experts and other community groups who assisted during the planning scheme review process.
