Hunter Coal Exports
Submitted by Oliver Coleman on January 13, 2006 – 09:47. Campaigns

Newcastle is already the largest export coal terminal in the world, foisting about 80 million tonnes a year of cheap coal onto the world.

There are currently plans to massively increase the volume of coal leaving Port Newcastle, spearheaded by projects like the Sandgate Rail Flyover, and the third Newcastle coal loader.

At a time when global greenhouse pollution needs to be cut swiftly and radically, and consupmtion of fossil fuels like coal needs to be stopped as fast as possible, Australian governments and corporations are heading in the opposite direction.
