Toni and I have been working for the past year or so on supporting the establishment of the Grow It Yourself network within Australia.
To be thruthful, Toni has been doing most of the work along with our friends Lisa and Murray, however I’ve been in the background providing support as I can.
Grow It Yourself was started in Ireland by an inspiring gentleman Mike Kelly. It is all about creating local groups of people who share a passion in creating their own productive backyard fruit and vegetable gardens.
We established the GIY Kalamunda group about 9 months ago, and have monthly meetings on a range of topics with a range of high profile speakers including John Colwill, Neville Passmore, Trevor Cochrane and Peter Coppin.
But it is more than just meetings. We organise visits to gardens and plan on having demonstrations on a diverse range of topics including preserving, sharpening tools and pruning.
We’ve just launched the new GIY Australia website thanks to the genius of David Sauzier. The hills community where we live is truly amazing and filled with incredibly talented people!
