Young Australians deserve a curriculum that gives our generation the knowledge and skills to help shape a sustainable Australia. The current framework for the national curriculum isn’t good enough – sustainability education isn’t a priority. For more information see our fact sheet. The Australian Youth Climate Coalition is meeting with the Curriculum Assessment and Review Board next week, and we’ll present this petition then. Please add your name below:
Dear Education Minister Julia Gillard and Board members of the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Review Board,
As part of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, I’m concerned that the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Review Board is not prioritising climate change and sustainability education in the new national curriculum being developed. I urge you to
1) integrate sustainability into all areas of the National Curriculum and
2) Include a key learning area in the new curriculum which specifically addresses climate change and sustainability, eg a new key learning area called ‘Sustainability’ or ‘Society and the Environment’.
At the start of the 2011 school year I look forward to seeing a new curriculum oriented around sustainability!
Thank you.
