Join our summer of action against seismic blasting along the Great Ocean Road. The Southern Ocean is under threat from seismic blasting and gas exploration. We need collective community action to protect our marine environments from the damage caused by fossil fuel exploration. We are preparing for a summer of action against seismic blasting along the Great Ocean Road. Join us, and stand up to protect our Southern Ocean against destructive seismic blasting. ACTIONS & EVENTS
Below is a list of events as part of our summer campaign. Events include street marches, beach rallies, paddle outs as well as film screening of ‘Southern Blast’ and talk nights with locals and experts. View the trailer for Southern Blast here.
◦ January 5 – Barwon Heads / Film Screening: Film screening of Surfrider’s ‘Southern Blast’. 6pm at the Barwon Head Community Hall. Food provided, drinks available. Book tickets
◦ January 6 – Ocean Grove / RALLY: Street march, beach rally, speakers. 10am march from Ocean Grove Park. Rally at OG Lookout. More details
◦ January 7 – Torquay / Film Screening: Film screening of Surfrider’s ‘Southern Blast’. 7pm at the Australian National Surfing Museum. Book tickets
◦ January 13 – Wye River / Film Screening: Film screening of Surfrider’s ‘Southern Blast’. 7:30pm at the Wye River SLSC Book tickets
◦ January 14 – Apollo Bay / RALLY: Street march, beach rally, speakers. 10:30 start at Mechanics Hall. More details.
◦ January 14 – Apollo Bay / Film Screening: Southern Blast film screening. 7pm at Apollo Bay community hall, 4 Whelan Street. Book tickets

Outcome Evidence: The plan for the Otway Basin 3D Multi-client Marine Seismic Survey was withdrawn for assessment with NOPSEMA in September 2024. OCEAN also campaign more broadly against seismic blasting, including campaigning agaisnt Special Prospecting Authority permits. In November 2024, independent Monique Ryan introduced a private members bill to abolish seismic blasting permits. It is currently before the house of representatives. This campaigning also continues. (Ascertained Feb 2025.)
