The Issues
BELIEVE IT OR NOT, WASTE IS THE BIGGEST ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE WE FACE TODAY
Sounds exaggerated? It’s the unfortunate truth. Food & packaging waste is connected to major environmental and social issues: greenhouse gas pollution, food insecurity, high farmer suicide rates and wildlife deaths both on land and at sea…
“At a large scale, this illustrates our societal problem with food. The food system overproduces, wraps food in packaging, embeds energy, chucks away mountains of usable food, and produces food residues. All this is done on such a massive scale that the waste we’ve made is too dangerous even to feed to pigs, one traditional solution.” Tim Lang, Professor of Food Policy at City University London

Where the funds go
Funds raised through Give a Fork! will provide vital support to Sustainable Table’s awareness and education program
Sustainable Table’s awareness and education program helps to build a better food system. It informs Australians about how our food is produced and what impact our food choices have on the environment, farmers, animals and communities. Through the program, Sustainable Table provides information as well as practical tools to help Aussie consumers make better food choices. As consumers, we hold great power. Through our shopping dollar we can encourage more sustainable and ethical practices by those in the food industry. Sustainable Table works to raise consumer awareness of these issues so that each and everyone of us can make a positive difference. Read more
