About

The 210m Fragrance development on Davey Street has been revived, but we have very little information on its height etc. at this stage. You can make a representation on the Davey Street proposal below at any time. The Elizabeth Street Fragrance development remains stuck in appeal, TCT collected over 450 representations on this development in 2018. TCT elected not to oppose the most recent Fragrance development in Hobart at the old conservatorium of music site. We elected not to oppose this multi-level apartment development because it was within the performance criteria as per the planning scheme for this area. Meanwhile, TCT assisted the group Launceston Heritage not Highrise with their campaign against the Launceston Fragrance proposal. The Launceston Fragrance proposal is also in RMPAT (approved by council and appealed by LHNH) and we will know in the coming weeks whether the appeal launched by the local community on the basis of height, bulk and heritage impacts will be successful.

The Hobart City Council is required to seek submissions on the Fragrance Tower proposal, including regarding the impacts on Hobart’s heritage, character, traffic and parking. We will lodge your submission with the Hobart City Council during the official public consultation period. TCT can present your submission to the Hobart City Council. It is not a legal requirement that you review the development application documentation before making a submission. However, the Council can only take into account submissions if you link your concerns to specific features of the proposal, such as its height or increased strain on traffic and parking. Campaign Ran From: 2021 to 2022

Campaign Outcome:

Outcome Evidence: The Australian Property Journal reported in November 2022 that 'FIVE years after lodging plans with Hobart City Council, Singaporean developer Fragrance Group has finally won planning approval for a new hotel in the CBD – albeit at a drastically reduced height.' Although the reduced height appears to address one of the issues identified in the campaign text, overal the campaign does not appear to have achieved its goal. (Ascertained June 2024)
