Ban fossil fuel ads and sponsorships

About

Fossil fuels are the new tobacco. Why ban fossil fuel ads and sponsorships?
– They increase demand for products that are harming our health and climate
– They falsely portray coal, oil and gas as clean and green
– They tarnish our treasured sports and cultural groups
– They cover up the damage being done by polluting industries
– They have helped delay climate action for too long

Take action now
Tell your local politicians to ban fossil fuel ads and sponsorships. Use the tool below to find your local councils contact info, and copy the form letter we have prepared.

As a local resident, I am writing to ask that you stop the promotion of high emissions products and companies on council-managed land. Many councils prohibit advertising and sponsorships of tobacco, gambling and alcohol in recognition of the negative effects they have on our community. But products such as fossil fuels are still advertised widely and freely. Coal, oil and gas are hazardous to human health. Air pollution from these products takes 8.7 million lives per year – more than smoking. Burning fossil fuels is the primary cause of global warming, which is driving the worsening extreme weather in our area. We must stop fossil fuel companies using marketing and sponsorships to delay the phasing out of these products. Several Australian LGAs are already moving to ban high emission promotions, along with France, the Netherlands and the UK. Please support the Fossil Ad Ban campaign in Australia and introduce this Notice of Motion. Kind Regards
