Protecting our native forests
Current logging activities in New South Wales’ native forests are fundamentally unsustainable. Over-allocation of timber resources from our native forests has resulted in timber being harvested faster than it can grow, which in turn is driving increasingly unsustainable logging practices. We work to protect our native forests by exposing illegal logging, advocating for improved forestry regulation and presenting the case for a transition to a sustainable plantation-based timber industry.

Woodlands and wildlife at risk
Native vegetation provides essential environmental, social and economic benefits, including protecting water quality, maintaining soil health and providing wildlife habitat for threatened species.
These values are at risk from land clearing, unsustainable logging and looming changes to important environmental laws, including the Native Vegetation Act, Threatened Species Conservation Act and National Parks and Wildlife Act. Recent changes to native vegetation regulations deliver damaging concessions to the farming lobby, by weakening protections for paddock trees and allowing clearing without approval.
Since the introduction of the Native Vegetation Act 2003, the state’s poor record of broadscale land clearing has improved, but we still face significant threats to native landscapes across New South Wales.
We cannot afford to return to the era of broadscale land clearing when millions of hectares of forests and woodlands were bulldozed and burned. We are working with our members to defend essential protections for our forests, woodlands and wildlife.
