Together we can save 800,000 hectares of forest and native vegetation. The TCT has been standing up for Tasmania’s wilderness areas since 1968. One of the biggest threats to Tasmania’s old growth forests is clear felling on private land. There are over 800,000 hectares of untouched forest and native vegetation that we must work together to protect. We aim to work with the farmers and other land owners to ensure they protect their forests and have the resources to manage them to reduce threats. Many farmers and other land owners are doing great work to protect forests on their land. If given some assistance many more land owners can also protect their forests and manage the threats.
– SAVING ENDANGERED FOREST AT ANSONS BAY We are undertaking a court case to stop more than 1800 hectares of important native forest being cleared on private land near Ansons Bay, including nearly 500 hectares of the endangered Eucalyptus ovata forest.
– PROTECTING 2000 HECTARES AT VAN DIEMAN’S LAND DAIRY We have been campaigning for the Van Deimen’s Land Dairy company to abandon its plans to clear nearly 2000 hectares of native forest on its property at Woolnorth. These native forests are valuable habitat for the endangered Tasmanian devil.
– FORESTS AND VEGETATION We help establish programs to assist farmers and other private landowners to conserve forests and improve the quality, extent and connectivity of vegetation. We are working to increase the amount of firewood that is harvested from legal and sustainable sources.
