It’s our most precious environmental resource.
Royal National Park is not only a beautiful natural area. It is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna; it has outstanding geological features and spectacular scenery and it’s the lungs of the Sydney basin. Plus it’s a great place to visit. Did you know that Royal National Park is the world’s oldest national park, older even than the world-famous Yosemite and Yellowstone parks in the USA. It’s also the only significant national park in the world contained within a capital city (Sydney). This is all the more reason to protect it.
Sutherland Shire Environment Centre is campaigning to have the Royal listed for World Heritage Register of the United Nation’s UNESCO. This project was begun by Bob Walshe OAM (the Centre’s beloved founder and patron), who championed it up till the time of his death in early 2018. We’ve achieved some significant milestones with the publication of The First National Park, A Natural for World Heritage by Dr Geoff Mosley (available from our book shop)
